Kelly DeHaan - Conductor & Artistic Director
KELLY DEHAAN received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in choral education and choral conducting from the University of Utah. Shortly after receiving his BA, he was recruited to be the Assistant Accompanist for the "Utah Symphony Chorus." Kelly has also musically directed and performed in many shows at the Hale Center Theater, the Grand Theater, and the Conference Center Theater.
Kelly is a sought-after vocal teacher and coach, and a highly respected clinician. In 2005, he was honored to conduct the “16,000-Voice Day of Celebration Choir” for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Kelly has been conducting the Sterling Singers since 1996, and directed many major works, including the debut of Crawford Gates’ opera, Joseph, Joseph. He is also the Associate Conductor and Principal Accompanist for “Utah Voices.” Although he is a very busy musician, his first commitment is to his beloved “Sterling Singers.”
Kelly has been teaching high school choir at West Jordan High School since 1997. In 2007, he received the “Outstanding Educator Award” from the Jordan Education Foundation; and in 2009/2010 was chosen to be the UHSAA “Music Educator of the Year.” He and his wife, Shellie, are the parents of four sons, two of whom are also members of the Sterling Singers.
